It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of ATPAM Press Agent Margie Korshak. Margie passed away on Sunday, March 2 at the age of 86.
Â
Margie came into membership in 1977. As the founder of Margie Korshak, Inc, she was responsible for the press for most of the Broadway shows that opened in Chicago throughout her career.
Â
In her obituary in the Chicago Tribune, Chris Jones writes "She was a fierce advocate for her clients, operating on the principle that she who does not ask does not get, and she had no compunction in pushing hard through whatever channel — reporter, critic, columnist, editor, yet more powerful editor — would get the results she wanted, ideally coverage in the Sunday Tribune’s arts section, ideally on the cover. But she did so with charm."
Â
To say that Margie was a fixture in the Chicago arts scene would be an understatement. I first met Margie in 1999 when we opened the Oriental Theater (now the Nederlander) with the production of "Ragtime". We worked more closely during the opening of "Billy Elliot" in Chicago and to be honest there were times when we didn't agree, but Margie's knowledge of the Chicago market, and her instinct for getting a news story placed were unparalled. And yet, she also recognized a good idea when she heard it. I've always enjoyed my times with her throughout my career. She was truly one of a kind and her passing willl leave a void in the community.
