In Memoriam: Herbert Breslin

It is with sadness ATPAM announces the passing on May 17 of Gold Card Press Agent Herbert Breslin in Nice, France.  Brother Breslin, who lived in New York and Paris, was 87 years old.  He had been a member of ATPAM since 1975.  A lover of opera from a young age, Herbert met Luciano Pavarotti in 1967 after seeing him perform at Carnegie Hall.  That meeting led to a longtime professional relationship between the two men.  Herbert was credited with bringing the opera star to a new level of celebrity by booking appearances for him on television and in movies.  His memoir “The King and I:  The Uncensored Tale of Luciano Pavarotti’s Rise to Fame by His Manager, Friend and Sometime Adversary” (2004) addressed their relationship with candor.  Early in his career, Herbert also represented the singers Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Joan Sutherland and Marilyn Horne.  He also helped develop the career of pianist Alicia de Larrocha.

Brother Breslin is survived by his wife Carol, his son and daughter, and four grandchildren.
