It is with sadness ATPAM announces the death on December 26 of Manager Daryl T. Dodson in Kansas City, Missouri. Brother Dodson was 83 years old and had been a member of ATPAM since 1978.
Daryl was born in Warrensburg, Missouri in 1934 to Theodore and Ada Marie Dodson. He earned a BS from Central Missouri State University and subsequently served in the US Army from 1957 – 1959. His first major engagement in show business was as assistant director for The Mikado at the New York City Opera. In 1978 he served as manager on one of the first cultural exchange tours between the US and China. He also worked with the American Ballet Theatre, the National Ballet of Cuba, the Royal Ballet of England and the Paris Opera Ballet.
After working as manager of the Kennedy Center’s Opera House and as general manager of the John Curry Skating Company in the early 1980’s, Daryl worked for many years as Company Manager on the various touring productions of Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera. Other touring productions Daryl managed were Sweeney Todd and Amadeus and, both on Broadway and on tour, The Wiz.
He also served as proprietor of the Pine Cone Inn in Haverhill, New Hampshire from 1977 – 1981.
He will be missed.
